McCoy Lazor Zap XF
Geoff McCoy launched the Lazor Zap in 1981. First built to give Cheyne Horan an edge in small, weak contest surf, it changed surfboard design. It pairs a wide, thick tail with a pulled, low-resistance pointed nose, which suits short-arc, reactive, high-powered surfing.
Design features
- Wide, thick tail gives support and pressure for easier reaction and drive
- Pulled nose cuts rail length in the turn, so it turns faster with less resistance
- Extra volume means easier paddling and quicker response
- Surf from one fixed stance without moving your feet
- Phase 2 refinements: more balanced rocker and thickness flow, forgiving rails with more hold, and better placement of the loaded dome curves
- Performs in waves up to about 6 ft
